InnoSpecting Framework

Success always starts with a plan. Well, we have a plan. And our plan has been shaped by over 30 years of experience working for some of the most innovative firms in America and countless hours of research. We’ve built it to address the six most common issues with companies instituting an innovation plan. And we call that plan the InnoSpecting Framework.

But, as we noted earlier, no two businesses are the same. Therefore, no single plan will work for everyone. That’s why we tailor our framework to our individual clients. We tailor how ideas are collected. We tailor what metrics are captured. We tailor how often the portfolio is reviewed, how its successes are communicated and how its participants are rewarded.

Our experts all have over 10 years of experience driving organizations forward. That expertise has resulted in our team leveraging those skills to create out our own Innovation framework, the InnoSpecting Framework, which we use as a guide and tailor it to your industry and your organization.

InnoSpecting Community

To supplement the access to our experts, we also realize that sometimes it is nice to hear from others facing the same challenges you are. That’s why we created the InnoSpection Community. It allows for clients to

Incremental Package

The Incremental Package is our base package. It is perfect for the company or organization that is looking to begin the journey into continuous innovation. It provides an opportunity for our staff to begin putting the building blocks in place, without breaking the bank. The benefits for this package include:

  • As mentioned above, you get direct access to our experts as well as access to our InnoSpecting Community.
  • The tailoring of the InnoSpecting Framework to the organization, including establishing a means for the organization to collect new ideas and identifying which metrics are important to the organization.
  • Having an Ever Evolving staff member chair the Innovation Pulse meeting, to ensure that it runs smoothly and everyone understands what ideas are being prioritized, why and what the next steps are.
  • An annual re-alignment of the Innovation pipeline with the company’s strategic and tactical road-maps. 

But the Incremental Package is our bare-bones . It leaves so much up to the organization; including the day to day management of the program. Often, for a business where all of its employees are already stressed with hours, they require more support.  

Disruptive Package

The Disruptive Package builds on top of the Incremental Package, and adds to it that day to day management layer that was missing. It’s perfect for the organization that has the resources and capabilities to experiment with new ideas, but wants to have a 3rd party manage them. The benefits for this package include:

  • All of the great stuff from the Incremental Package, PLUS
  • We maintain your innovation portfolio, not only establishing the metrics but tracking them and reporting to your leadership how your organization is performing.
  • In the Incremental Package, we establish how the organization captures new ideas. In this package, we take those raw inputs and turn them into ideas that can be invested in. 
  • We build out and execute the Communications Plan, one of the Four Pillars of Continuous Innovation that we have identified. 

While the Disruptive Package adds some great features, and helps companies in need of that steady management, it too leaves gaps. For instance, the Disruptive Package turns the raw input from employees, stakeholders, clients and non-clients into ideas, but it doesn’t talk about how those ideas could turn a profit.

Breakthrough Package

This is where the Breakthrough Package takes off. Ideas are only any good if they have a positive effect the company’s profit margin. In the Breakthrough Package, our consultants help you do just that.

The ideas are still coming from your stakeholders; however, we now take it a step farther. In this package we begin building out a business model for the idea – giving your leadership further evidence about whether it does or does not want to invest in it. This is great for an organization who doesn’t have the resources or entrepreneurial background to write a business plan about the idea. 

The benefits for the Breakthrough Package include:

  • Everything from the Incremental and Disruptive Packages, PLUS
  • Researching, and recommending business models based on ideas that are collected. 
  • Since we wrote the business plan, our team is also ideally placed to act as the Project Manager for ideas selected for experimentation.   

The Breakthrough Package is great for any company who is looking to hire a part-time overseer of its innovation portfolio. However, it still falls short in a couple of manners. 

One, this resource will still not be able to perform the experimentation. They can manage it and make sure it stays on schedule. We will gladly tap into our network and help you find the right sub-contractors where appropriate as well. However, our resource will not be able to build the actual product. 

And two, the company’s capabilities will not grow with the addition of this resource. Peter Thiel, the famous Silicon Vally investor once famously said in his book Zero to One, that “…anyone who doesn’t own stock options or draw a regular salary from your company is fundamentally misaligned.” With that in mind, we come to our final package.

Transformational Package

The Transformational Package is just that. It’s where we teach you how to run our framework yourself. We work along side you to tailor the framework, tools and templates for how your business succeeds, but then we coach you how to use them. 

The ultimate benefit here is that your organization grows not only new products and services, but new capabilities as well. And its that third dimension that takes your organization to new heights. Other benefits of this package include:

  • Lifetime usage rights to tools and templates. So, long after our contract has expired, you can continue to get value out of our collaboration.
  • A week-long, on-site, introduction to the InnoSpecting Framework. During this session, we will outline roles and responsibilities, identify employees who could fill those roles, and begin tailoring the framework, tools and templates to your organization.
  • We will help craft a roadmap for your organization to roll out this effort; including how it will be communicate to your staff, when “train the trainer” sessions will happen, and the schedule for the Innovation Pulse meetings.  
  • We will commit to 5 on-site sessions during the first year, including the week-long initial training session and first two innovation pulse meetings. 
  • We will have weekly virtual training sessions where we review the work being completed by your staff, suggest changes were appropriate, and step in and help where we have to.
