In June, Steve Palmer, co-founder of Ever Evolving, was selected to lead a series of bi-weekly meetings designed to establish Maryland’s Open Data Administration and Management Working Group. Mr. Palmer, having previously been appointed by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan to join the Open Data Council is excited about the opportunity.
Mr. Palmer says “Maryland is ahead of the game with our approach to collecting and disseminating Open Data. Now, our challenge is to take it to the next level. How do we make sure we are providing the user community with the data they need in a format they can use? How do we make sure that people are not taking advantage of the generosity of the State to earn a buck at the expense of our constituents? These are all questions we will be addressing in the Administration and Management Working Group, and I’m excited to help the State tackle some of these big questions.”
This will also position Ever Evolving to continue to lead in the area of aggregating and disseminating information on Maryland’s economic and socio-economic conditions. The foundation of their Maryland Insights tool is built on data from Maryland’s Open Data Portal. It just takes it a step farther and changes the datasets and data tables and turns them into actionable information in the form of charts, graphs, reports, and queries.
Mr. Palmer continues, “businesses and people need actionable information. We provide that with Maryland Insights. Now our challenge is to stay ahead of the competition. And we see working hand in hand with the State as the most obvious way to be able to do that for our clientele.”
